- You firstly need to find out about the opportunities, then bid for them - as with most business it helps if you have prior knowledge of the clients, so you can't beat relationship building in your chosen market. Finding opportunities depends on your location...in the UK I have a list of some sites where tender notices are published at: http://www.learntowriteproposals.com/index.php/Useful-links/Tender-notices-and-publications/ There are equivalent sites for the US as well as the rest of the world and of course numerous organizations that will provide a tender notice search service for you. Most business and governments are going to require a written proposal, often in response to a formal Request for Proposal process. This can be cumbersome and will usually require your organisation to have at least 3 years audited accounts available...there are usually other hoops to jump through too. If you want more information on writing proposals (these can be proactive as well as responding to RFPs) then as the name suggests, go to www.learntowriteproposals.com - there are a lot of really great resources there for you. Get in touch through the website if you wish to discuss how to formulate a professional sales process incorporating proposal development, or if you want to buy any of the tools from our shop then get 20% off with this code: LTWP2009. Good luck with your business development. James
