Can you change the starting bid of an item that is being watched? I am just starting to auction items on ebay and I wasn't familiar with the process of starting bids. I thought they all started at .99 until I realized that other auctions named the starting bid. Is it poor ebay etiquette to change the starting bid price if someone is watching it but hasn't actually bid yet?

How fast does ebay process its "automatic" bids? For example, say someone has posted a highest bid of $50 but the current high bid for the item is still sitting at $40 because no one else has bid any higher. If I come along with only 30 seconds remaining in the auction and bid $45, will I win or will ebay quickly calculate that the $50 bid should get it?

RE: HUD Bidding process? I placed a bid on a hud home through a broker and noticed that there is other bids on this house, I found this info on hmb inc. web site and my bid is not listed with the other bids. none of the bids have been accepted yet and it's been along time since the last bid was submitted. the highest bid is really close to the asking price, since it has been reduced. The bid I put in is way lower then the other bids, but I don't understand the process hud uses. The Priority Date ended over a month ago and the last list date was 2 weeks ago with no offer accepted. My bid was placed 4 day's ago.
What does this say about our election process? The fact that Colbert can make such waves by mocking the process in a fake bid for the office really shows what America thinks of politicians. While he probably isn’t that serious, it is sad that so many people prefer the prankster to the politicians. What are the odds that any of the ‘real’ candidates will learn anything by this? http://tv.yahoo.com/show/38498/news/urn:newsml:tv.ap.org:20071017:colbert_president__ER:42717
Mountain West Conference is applying for automatic BSC bid, think they will get it? The Mountain West conference has applied to the BCS committee for an automatic BCS bid. It takes 4 years for this process but do you think they will get it considering they were better than the ACC and, possibly, the Big East this season. And also take into account that TCU and BYU were also in the top 16 at the end of the season. Also Utah had that impressive Sugar Bowl win.
US government foreclosure auction- just pay off the default balance and no auction process? There is a house up for formal auction through the US marshals office next Friday. The government's starting bid is $33,556 on this house. Would an interested buyer be allowed to just pay this $33,556 balance off to the government instead of going through the whole auction process? It just makes sense for the interested buyer to buy the house if all the government wants is the $33,556.

Are you experienced in the HUD home bidding and buying process? I'm about to place a bid for the 1st time on behalf of a client. My managing broker hasn't had experience with any HUD deals although our company is registered with HUD. I could use some more attentive detailed help I can't find. I've been showing HUD homes to a family. They've found one they'd like to bid on. I'd like this to go well for them - this is definetly a challenge for me as this will also be my 1st sale if our bid is accepted. My questions are: Do you get the inspection before you place the bid? Or do you set up the inspection just as soon as possible? We have viewed the home. It needs work of course. Are all the general steps the same - do I need to order the legal from a closing company NOW... do yo know how that works? If the deals are done electronically, how does that work as far as having the forms filled out in front of you? Here's a broad, general question: beside being sure to write in my commission, what do I need to remember & be sure of? THANKS!!

I am trying to buy a house through the quick sale process, before it forecloses...? we already made an offer to the bank and it was accepted pending the owner signs a promissary note stating they would repay part of the monies due. It doesn't look like the owners will sign, and it will go through the foreclosure process. What happens to my bid? Does it affect my bid when this forecloses, or is it just a technicallity? Bottom line, do I get the house? This will be our house, not an investment.

I'm currently bidding for an item that started out as $0.01 and is right now $15.00. I really need this item and I'm worried that if I bid at the last second I will be outbidded once again. Appreciate any help.

Why did oil companies from the US and Britian get exclusive oil contracts in Iraq? If the Iraq war had NOTHING to do about securing oil supplies, why wasn't the bidding process opened up for all the major oil companies around the world? Pemex (Mexico) and Yukos (Russia) were among 40 others were completely shut out of the no-bid process in favor of US and British companies. Surprising? edit: Total (of France) is the smallest of the 6 major oil companies in the world. And Total is sharing their contract with Chevron of the USA.
